Hi,

I will share about what to eat and what not to eat after delivery.

It is very important to have a balanced and controlled diet post delivery for at least 30 to 60 days if you are breastfeeding.

It is very important to have a balanced and controlled diet post delivery for at least 30 to 60 days if you are breastfeeding.

Whatever you eat will be transferred via breastmilk to your baby and newborns wont be able to digest properly leading to diarrhea, indigestion, colic pain, spitting, vomiting, difficulties while passing urine / stool and crying because of stomach discomfort.

If you have a controlled diet and breastfeed your baby, then your child will be avoiding so many problems.

Breastfed babies cry for no reasons. So have a healthy diet. Now I will share what to eat and what not to eat.

1). No spicy foods after delivery.

If you eat spicy foods, babies will find irritation while passing stools. So try to reduce chilies.

2).Salt and sweet intake also should be reduced.

3). Avoid biscuits. If you would like to have any snacks, then have 2 or 3 biscuits. Avoid eating junk foods.

4). Avoid savory items like murukku, mixture, etc…Avoid deep fried and oily snacks.

5). Coconut chutney should be avoided for 30 days post delivery. You can add little amount of coconut in sambar or gravy but no coconut chutney.

6). Avoid chocolates & ice creams, babies will get stomach discomfort.

7). Avoid chicken, crabs ,prawns and meats which creates body heat especially if your baby is born during summer.

Eat fish more to get more milk supply.

8).Avoid Maggi/noodles for atleast 30 days. Have biscuits & cookies (No cream biscuits) and fruits for snacks. Have nutrichoice if you face constipation after delivery.

9). NO EGGS FOR 30 DAYS. It is the main cause for stomach pain and gas pain.

10). Avoid consuming more tamarind. No fish curry which have only tamarind water. Add tomatoes instead of tamarind. Consuming more tamarind will make you more anemic

11). You can have 2 cups of tea per day but NO COFFEE for 30 days. Caffeine will make your baby cranky and crying.

You can start eating all these foods gradually after 2 months when baby’s digestive system will start to cope up.

12). You can eat all type of fruits except papaya, pineapple and fruits which creates body heat.

Now, I will tell you what to eat if you are breastfeeding your child.

1) Drinking more milk will help lactation and baby will get more nutrition.

2) There is a Jeera & coriander powder . It is must to include his recipe in your diet post delivery.

3) Mutton and fish is very important for both mother’s and child’s health.

4)If you have just returned home after delivery, then you should eat only steamed foods like idli and idiyapam. Side dish should be ghee, glucose and milk. No spicy foods during the 1st week.

5). Have garlic rasam, dal rasam and have more dal recipes. Have vegetables which have more water content.

6). Avoid potatoes.

Garlic is very important post delivery, but even if you consume more garlic, baby will get gas pain.

7). Have dried fish (karuvaadu) to improve lactation. It is a good source for milk production for nursing mothers.

8).Have more fiber rich fruits which helps in constipation.

9).Have health mix regularly post delivery if you are breastfeeding. This will help you gain more strength & energy. Check out the link given in description if you are nursing your child.

10). Add spinach in your daily diet. Green leafy veggies are very good post delivery.

These are the most important things to follow in your diet post delivery. If you have any other doubts, leave a comment below.

Thank you :)
